Little Peoples First Aid Course

Do you know what to do for your child in an emergency? The ‘Travelling Annies Little People First Aid’ course aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills to help you confidently recognise, respond, and manage an emergency in your family.

Non Accredited training is completed at your own pace through an Online Learning Platform.

The content of the non-accredited online Travelling Annies Little People courses reflects the illnesses and presentations commonly seen in Emergency Departments.

Two courses aimed at less than 1 year of age and 1-5 years, provides evidence based information and additional hints and suggestions for parents, all located in one handy presentation.

A certificate of attendance is received at the completion of the online theory.

Travelling Annies Non-Accredited online course content explores:

  • Allergic reactions

  • Anaphylaxis

  • Adrenaline autoinjector

  • Croup

  • Bronchiolitis

  • Burns & Scolds

  • Fevers

  • Febrile convulsions

  • Gastroenteritis

  • Dehydration

  • Head injury

  • Poisoning

Unit Being Delivered

The following units will be included in your certificate:

  • HLTAID010 - Provide basic emergency life support

  • HLTAID009 - Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Course Delivery 

This course will be delivered:

  • In the workplace or at an Travelling Annies facility

  • Online learning with face to face assessment

Entry Requirements

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

Pre-course study:   Students may be required to undertake online pre-course work prior to attending the face to face session depending on the course delivery mode.

Online study:  Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

Duration:

Enhanced Online Learning (EOL)

  • Online delivery with face to face Practical assessment – self paced online learning 

  • Face to face session allow 1.5hrs

Assessment Requirements:

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. 

Certificate Renewal Requirements:

It is recommended that renewal for this course is undertaken every 3 years, with the additional recommendation of updating the CPR component every 12 months.

What happens at the course?

Learning Activities

Delivery of course information and learning activities.

Assessment Activities

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include: 

  • Performance tasks & practical scenarios - The assessor must observe the following performance tasks:

    • Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED and placing a casualty into the recovery position)

    • Perform CPR on an infant

    • Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis

    • Manage a casualty with asthma

    • Manage a choking casualty

    • Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock

  • Theory assessment -   A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions. Model responses are provided later in this document. The student must complete all assessment questions.
